Hair client, Lori, turned to THE LOFT Salon this week because a salon across town gave her the worst hair cut she had ever received in her life. Below is what Lori said about how Kylee Valentine at The Loft fixed the disaster.
" I just wanted to give a special thanks to Kylee Valentine. (pictured left) Not only did she turn my bad hair cut around, but she definitely convinced me that anything that looks screwed up can be fixed at The Loft! My experience at The Loft was relaxing. I walked in almost afraid to let anyone touch my hair after I received the worst hair cut of my life [from another salon] and I walked out feeling like a brand new person. The great thing about all of this is I’m definitely NOT exaggerating the story one bit. When the girls at The Loft got a load of my hair cut they flipped their lids so to speak…so anybody who has been through this kind of experience can understand the thanks I want to bestow upon the person who saved my day! I saw an ad in the Crimson & White about this salon and decided to try it out. The day of my appointment was on a thursday and I was having the worst day ever. I almost canceled but something told me to just go ahead with it. As I walked in I was instantly impressed with the decor of the salon . I was welcomed with a warm greeting, asked if I wanted anything to drink and was quickly met by my stylist. She was wonderful! She actually listened to me and gave me exactly what I wanted. She also informed me on products that have made a world of difference in my hair. All in all I would recommend this salon to anyone. My worst day turned out to be a Great Experience!!!!

"If you want to be blonde go to Morgan McNeal. She really knows what platinum is. Morgan colored, cut, and styled my hair exactly how I wanted it." Wow. That’s a doozie of a statement isn’t it? The editor of the Scoop was shocked with this 4 foot 9 inch Sicilian-blooded beauty service critic’s beginning statement during her de-briefing of the salon experience she had with Master stylist and colorist, Morgan McNeal, at Tera Lane Salon and Spa.
The Scoop’s Salon Experience contributor, Jessica Perrone, shares her professional opinions on the hair services she received by Morgan McNeal at Tera Lane Salon and Spa in Tuscaloosa. BamaSalons.com is excited to provide this review because Jessica had so many awesome things to report about her experience. Before you get your hair colored or cut anywhere read this first!

"My salon experience with Morgan McNeal at Tera Lane Salon and Spa can be summed up in one word: AMAZING.
No other salon, stylist, or colorist has ever satisfied me as much as Morgan McNeal did at Tera Lane Salon and Spa. I have been getting my dark hair colored blonde since I was 13 years old. I have been a color client of salons in Philadelphia, PA, Birmingham, AL and of several well-known salons around Tuscaloosa. What does all that mean? That means I know that all hair coloring, cutting, and styling services are not created equal. I’ve experienced average, below average, and occasional above average hair services. The thing is, I understand that the task of making super dark hair super blonde can be a daunting and sometimes down right scarey task to many stylists! Morgan McNeal met the challenge.
Morgan gave me the platinum color I asked for on the first try. I usually go back and have the colorist make my hair more blonde within a week but not this time! Morgan got it right and I finally have the multi-tonal blonde color I have always searched for. As all of you brunette-to-blondes know… getting that perfect blonde color can be difficult. Morgan, being a fellow-platinum herself, created a color formula that resulted in the PERFECT, CELEBRITY-WORTHY multi-tonal blonde color that I wanted! The color was and has stayed literally perfect. I would truly call Morgan McNeal an “expert in platinum!”
My hair cut was just as fabulous. I literally picked out a hair style in a hairstyle magazine, asked, “Morgan, can you do this!?”, and she cut and styled my hair identical to the picture I showed her! I mean identical! I didn’t want my service to end because I was enjoying the experience so much. When Morgan finished my hair I looked in the mirror and I was completely satisfied. I was elated as I walked out of Tera Lane, which is not the common reaction for me as I leave a salon because as I said before, I am extremely picky when it comes to my hair. I mean when you pay big bucks, or any bucks at all, on your hair you should be picky!
You know what the best feeling was and still is? Relief. That’s right. I feel relieved that I FINALLY found a stylist who can actually do platinum the right way! Morgan LISTENED to me and she truly cared if was happy with my hair. I was really impressed with the salon and its staff. The atmosphere and cleanliness of the salon was top notch and everyone I encountered was really nice. Tera Lane Salon and Spa is truly customer oriented.
Before I sign off I have to share this part. One nice gal stopped by my chair, introduced herself as one of the stylists, and checked to see if I needed anything. Turns out, that stylist was Tera Lane herself. It could have been so easy for her to be like, "Hello client. I am the owner of this salon and I just wanted to brag to you about it for a minute." But instead Tera simply checked on me and moved on without all the whistles and bells that normally follow owners around. THAT impressed me. A humble owner. Hmmm. That said something to me about the type of foundation this salon and spa is built on.
The Final Word: I live in Birmingham and I will absolutely drive to Tuscaloosa every time I need my hair done because Morgan is THE BEST platinum blonde colorist I have ever encountered. I had to give my resignation to BamaSalons.com’s The Scoop as a hair service experience contributor because Morgan McNeal will be the only stylist and colorist I will ever let do my hair again. (Yes, the Scoop is accepting applications.) Tera Lane Salon and Spa’s master stylist and colorist, Morgan McNeal, is the real deal. It is my professional opinion that Morgan McNeal is an expert in platinum."

How long did you have to wait before you were serviced?
“Not too long, maybe about five minutes.”
Did your service provider explain what they were doing during the service?
“Yes. The pedicurist was very thorough.”
Did you feel as if the service was rushed?
“Not at all. In fact, if she had gone faster I still would have felt pampered. She took her time and made sure the pedicure was done correctly.”
What do you wish would have been different?
“I didn’t take time to wait for the nail polish to dry and I accidentally smudged the polish after I left the salon! If there was a nail drying station I would have used it for sure.”
Final Stuff…
“I liked the pale pink nail color the pedicurist polished my toes with. They had the newest colors from the Zoya Nail Polish line. I was pleased with how the polish looked on my toe nails.”

Sometimes the editor gets to have a bit of fun and write her own salon experience… here it goes…
Okay, so if you knew me you would know that I have been pasty white most of my life. My mother is 100% Irish and that alone makes getting a tan and keeping a tan well a challenge. I’m used to burning and then peeling and then crossing my fingers hoping for some kind of brown-ish tint. One college summer I worked at a day camp as the ‘media chick’ and cataloged all the campers’ activities in photographs and in a prehistoric version of a blog. By the end of the summer I had a tan for the first time in my life and I was so pumped. Since then, I have known it is possible for me to have a tan but I also know I have to dedicate time to get one. One problem…I don’t have time to lay out at the pool so it was Planet Beach to the rescue.
Planet Beach in Tuscaloosa offers the Mystic Tan spray tan service and I love it. I go into the private room, follow the directions, walk out a few minutes later, and in about 3 hours I am tan. There’s no streaking, no odor (I always ask for the special drops that neutralize the faint scent), no wasted time, and no hassle! What’s not to love?
Tonya Lee, Manager of Planet Beach Tanning Salon in Tuscaloosa, was so helpful. She showed me the tricks of the trade so I could get the best tan possible. Make sure you ask her how to wear the foot cover- her technique is really good.… I did the technique correctly on one foot and not on the other and I could tell the coverage of the tan was in fact better on the foot I used the technique on!

Was Planet Beach’s atmosphere satisfactory?
Totally. Planet Beach Tanning Salon has a friendly and efficient staff! I didn’t wait longer than about 5 minutes for my tan session to begin but while I did wait I felt very comfortable in the waiting area.
Would you recommend Planet Beach’s Mystic Tan to others?
Absolutely. If you’re naturally pale and want a tan without a hassle try a Mystic Spray Tan. If you want to give your natural tan a kick get in the Mystic Tan booth. I really believe anyone seeking to have a glowing tan would be very happy with their Mystic Tan results.

Had you ever received a spray tan before?
Nope. Never.
Why not?
I don’t know. I just didn’t.
What did you think getting a spray tan was going to be like?
I had no idea. I was actually kind of apprehensive about getting a spray tan. I wondered if it would it really work? You know like, would it really look like a natural tan? Would I be orange or something? I just really didn’t know.
What was the experience like?
Honestly, it was really fast and easy. You get in your birthday suit, stand on the numbers inside the booth, turn when the machine tells you to, get out when it tells you to, dry off, get dressed, and leave. I noticed I was tan a little while later and I was pleasantly surprised by how natural it really looked.
What did you like about the spray tan?
I liked that I didn’t get burnt for once. I liked that it was so fast and simple. And most of all liked that I didn’t have to worry about tan lines like I usually do when I’m tanning by the pool in my swim trunks. I’m not the type to sport a Speedo at the pool.
You wouldn’t wear a Speedo at the pool? Never?
Well, when I’m 60 years old that’s another story. I could just blame my fashion sense on being senile.
