With its larger-than-life personalities and constantly shifting alliances, it’s a wonder there’s never been a soap opera centered around the world of upscale hairsalons. The latest brouhaha is last weekend’s mass exodus from Sally Hershberger Downtown. The legendary Hershberger said she was totally surprised to learn that colorist Marie Robinson—who left the salon on March 19—was planning to open her own shop and take a significant chunk of her former colleagues with her. The revelation resulted in the sudden firing of all of the soon-to-defect employees, including Hershberger’s rising star stylist Tommy Bucket, before they had a chance to jump ship.

Hershberger says she was dismayed by the secrecy, but thinks her tutelage will serve her old charges well. “These were my assistants—I got them when they didn’t have one client,” she tells us. “But I feel confident that I can build anybody.” While Robinson declined to comment, Hershberger says she has already hired replacements and promoted Robinson’s former assistants, Keith Shore and Erin Bogart, who will now tend to the haircolor of Pat Wexler, Vera Wang and Annie Leibowitz. The loss of so many key stylists “could have been a devastation, but it wasn’t,” Hershberger adds. “You can ask anybody who was there on Saturday. It was so crowded, Vera was sitting on a bench in the hall.”

Buffalo Wild Wings was the place to be last night! The Loft Salon’s owners, Kylee Jo Valentine and Judi Valentine, brought beauty goodie bags for everyone in the crowd to enjoy. "When 
there’s a party," said Judi, "there should always be party favors!" The Loft Salon also donated a $100 Loft Salon Gift Certificate for the Karaoke winner to apply towards any Loft salon service! Planet Beach Contempo Spa Tanning Salon owners, Lisa and Cliff Hembree, upped-the-anty and added a free month of tanning plus a gift bag complete with tanning lotion and other Planet Beach stuff to the contest winner’s award!
The Thursday night karaoke contest kicked off with one of Tuscaloosa’s favorite party startin’ radio
personalities, Stacy K from B101.7! Stacy grabbed the mic, got the wing lovin’ crowd’s attention, and introduced the first contestant of the evening. The songs we all expect to hear on a karaoke night were belted out by several contestants who felt the love from the crowd as everyone sang backup. Popular Radio 
Personality, Greg Thomas, and his fun-loving B101.7 buds, PJ and Jonas, cheered on the contestants throughout the night. A Carrie Underwood tune, sang extremely well by one contestant, set the stage for the crowd favorite and contest winning song, "Proud Mary". Maria Hargrove received the grand prize as her fans extended the traditional southern gestures of approval- lots of loud whistling and hollering. The Bud Light Girls, sporting cute baby tees, presented the smiling winner with her award.
There were duo singing divas and trolling country trios rocking the mic. But one star pushed this karaoke night to new heights as he walked through the
crowd, shaking hands, giving high-fives, and occasionally stopping to perform emotional dance moves and a jaw dropping air guitar. "That guy’s my freakin’ hero," said one fan, "that air guitar…is…awwwesome!" We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Karaoke Thursday at Buffalo Wild Wings was serious fun. If you missed it make sure you get your groove-thang there next week! A trip to Destin, Florida is going to be given as the grand prize to the winning karaoke finalist at the grand finale towards the end of the summer. If you can carry a tune, The Loft Salon, Planet Beach Tanning, B101.7, BamaSalons.com, the Bud Light Girls, and the rest of the crowd at Buffalo Wild Wings want to be your biggest fans next Thursday night!
