BamaSalons Announces Transition to Go Coast to Coast as SalonsCentral

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

The BamaSalons team always envisioned that one day it would be an online directory of salons, spas and cosmetology professionals from across the country that people could go to find salon services, spa experiences and even individual service providers located in their area code.

Beyond just listings of services and salons, this new countrywide beauty directory plans to become a true resource by providing visitors with actual customer reviews, announcements about discounts, a helpful relocation section with details that can help clients find where stylists and other service providers relocated to. Individual stylists, nail technicians, massage therapists and other professionals will be featured along with the salons, spas and products that make America’s beauty industry what it is…. unique, colorful and fabulous.

BamaSalons is excited to announce that the time has come for it to take its first steps toward being the online resource it was meant to be.

Without further adou’ BamaSalons introduces…

Check for updates, announcements and much more in the coming weeks on The Scoop!

Kylee Valentine, Loft Stylist, Fixed My Hair!

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Check out this hair client’s ACTUAL Experience below!

Hair client, Lori, turned to THE LOFT Salon this week because a salon across town gave her the worst hair cut she had ever received in her life. Below is what Lori said about how Kylee Valentine at The Loft fixed the disaster.

Kylee Jo Valentine, Stylist

" I just wanted to give a special thanks to Kylee Valentine. (pictured left) Not only did she turn my bad hair cut around, but she definitely convinced me that anything that looks screwed up can be fixed at The Loft! My experience at The Loft was relaxing. I walked in almost afraid to let anyone touch my hair after I received the worst hair cut of my life [from another salon] and I walked out feeling like a brand new person. The great thing about all of this is I’m definitely NOT exaggerating the story one bit. When the girls at The Loft got a load of my hair cut they flipped their lids so to speak…so anybody who has been through this kind of experience can understand the thanks I want to bestow upon the person who saved my day! Thanks again to all the ladies at the Loft Hair Salon and a special and personal thanks to the one and only… Kylee Valentine !"

Q and A: My hair ended up 2 shades too dark! What can I do?

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Q: Dear BamaSalons.com, I had Redken Shimmer 2 applied to color my hair yesterday at a salon and it is two shades too dark. I wanted medium blond and ended up with medium to dark brown. I want it fixed immediately. What can I do? – Michele S.

A; BamaSalons.com: Michele! How horrible! Listen. There is plenty you can do about this problem. Depending on the texture of your hair and the degree to which you want to lighten it are important factors that really need to be considered first and foremost! We recommend you call and make an appointment for a corrective color service…Don’t try and fix your hair color at home! We trust Kylee Jo Valentine at the Loft and Morgan McNeal at Tera Lane Salon and Spa with blond hair coloring services. They both have serious experience with coloring people’s hair to blond perfection PLUS…Kylee and Morgan have blond hair themselves.

You can reach Kylee Jo at the Loft at (205)752-9577 and Morgan McNeal at Tera Lane Salon at (205) 248-2244. Tell them BamaSalons recommended you call them and you might just get in sooner than usual. Good Luck and let us know how it goes. We know everything will work out just fine if you go with these two pros. Honestly, you may wind up LOVING your results because these two chicks are really good at what they do.

Sleeping Beauty Did Not Snore.

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Okay. Snoring is annoying and it tends not to be cute. An occasional little snort can be funny or whatever if someone has had a long day but generally snoring is well…just annoying! If there is anyone out there that knows they snore, snort, squeak, or make any noise at all while they are sleeping read further because if you remember correctly…Sleeping Beauty didn’t snore.

"What’s the big deal if I snore," you ask? Is evolution a big enough deal? How about creationism? Take your pick! Your snoring is depriving your cat from its Darwin-declared survival of the fittest adaptation, the catnap. (Darwin didn’t actually write it down because he knew the smart ones would understand. Duh.) Your earth shaking nostrel noises don’t prove the big bang theory. They do however prove that your snoring is doing an awesome job of banging up your roommate’s chances for passing that test at 8 o’clock in the morning. So much for her graduating next year and getting that job in that lab where she would have discovered the cure for cancer. Do you get it now?! Your snoring can change the world as we know it!

Okay, I got off on a tangent. Back to business…where was I? Ahhh yes. The reality of snoring.

If you do snore you’re not alone my nighttime noise-making friend. Snoring is common. Over one-third of people snore several times a month. So what the heck is causing this silence breaker? Well, while you rest peacefully in your bed air flows past your throat’s tissues. Sometimes these tissues vibrate as you breathe and your household gets to hear the nighttime song entitled, "I’m sleeping well and you’re probably not." Restoring the night’s peace and quiet is always good for domestic harmony so here are some things that can help get snoring under control.

Lose the weight and lose the snore. Health professionals advise that if people lose weight it may help them not snore as much. What is it that Kristy Allie yells in that commercial… "Have you called Jenny yet?!"

Surgery is an option for some snoring people if they have sleep apnea , but please, tell your roommate to put that sharp object away and leave the diagnosis and surgery to the doctors.

Drinking alcohol before bed may induce snoring. If you’re going to relax and drink a glass of wine, or two, or ten just remember this! Drinking wine may be sophisticated but snoring is not… so be sure not to chugg from the bottle because alcohol acts like a sedative and can relax the muscles in your throat.

But hey, when it comes down to it and you are snoring tell your miserable roomies to nudge you and resort back to the old trick…roll over! Try sleeping on your side. If it works for just a few minutes your audience will just have enough quiet time to fall asleep and you can continue that all too familiar concert of vexation. So roll over already!

Who Is The Right Candidate For Microdermabrasion?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

The right candidate for microdermabrasion is anyone over 14 who wants to get rid of superficial acne scars, blotchy skin, large pores, age or sun spots, fine wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture. All skin types and colors can be treated with microdermabrasions. But if you are pregnant, nursing or suffering from a chronic skin disease, or have been on Accutane or had laser surgery recently, consult with a specialist before having this treatment.

Q and A: What is a Medical Spa exactly and what should I expect when I visit one?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

A medical spa is the combination of a cosmetic surgery office and a European day spa. Many or all of your aesthetic needs can be met in one location . Clients may be able to get laser hair removal, Botox treatments, Restylane injections , undergo sessions to help reduce cellulite, receive microdermabrasion , get a traditional facial, or enjoy a session of message therapy all under one roof in a relaxing atmosphere.

All medical spas must have a medical doctor on staff. Many medical spas are affiliated with plastic surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, dermatologists, and licensed aestheticians. Med Spa clients have the advantage of being able to get the advice of a trained physician that specializes in a skin fitness and general facial aesthetics.

You should expect a Medical Spa to be relaxing. Med spas should offer a soothing atmosphere that includes all the pampering and service you would expect from a traditional spa. Medical spas should have a variety of skin care products available for purchase. Licensed med spa personnel should be ready to assist clients with their individual skin and body care needs. Medical spas should offer their clients the same level of medical care that one would expect from a professional cosmetic surgery or dermatology office. Ultimately, med spa clients should expect to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere, receive excellent services, and leave rejuvenated!

Med Spas: Questions to Ask Before You Book a Session

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

When it comes to these one-stop medical-spa cosmetic-treatment centers there are a few questions you should get answered before you go under a laser, needle, or other medical spa tool. BamaSalons has listed questions below so you can find out what you should expect when you book a med-spa session. Whether you are planning to receive microdermabrasion, exfoliate your skin with a chemical peel, or shallow a scar with a laser treatment asking these simple questions will help know if a particular med spa is the med spa for you.

  • Who is the medical director? They should be at least a physician trained in aesthetics and in the use of lasers if lasers are used in the facility.
  • How often does that physician visit the clinic?
  • Can you make an appointment with the actual physician? You should be able to have the physician at least be present or oversee any procedure.
  • What kind of skin conditions does the med spa treat? There are different types of lasers that are used for different types of services.
  • What is the training level of the person treating you?
  • What are the specialties of this med spa?

Just remember! It’s not rude or inappropriate to inquire about a Med Spa’s credentials and staff qualifications…it’s smart! Whenever you are planning to alter your appearance, especially permanently, it is vital to get the facts. Find out who is doing what plus how and where they learned to do it!

Q and A: Eye Protection in the Tanning Bed…

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

The Scoop has been receiving some questions about eye protection and its importance when tanning in tanning beds and other tanning units. BamaSalons.com consulted with Tonya Lee, manager of Planet Beach Tanning Salon in Tuscaloosa, AL. Check out the questions and answers below and get the scoop on eye protection while you tan!

Q: "I keep my eyes closed in the tanning bed, so why do I need to wear eye protection?"

A: Eye protection is one of the a necessity when using a tanning bed! Your eye lid is very thin and just closing your eyes or covering you face with a towel isn’t enough protection for your eyes! Your color vision can be diminished, eye tissues can be damaged, night vision abilities can be lost, and cataracts can be formed …so wear eye protection whenever you are tanning in a tanning bed!

Q: Should I purchase my own eye wear or is it okay to use a tanning salon’s community eye wear?

A: Some tanning salons offer free eye protection to tanning customers. These tanning salons claim their eye wear is cleaned and therefore is safe for pretty much everyone to use and ultimately share. Tanning salons may soak their eye wear in a container filled with antibacterial solutions or some other cleaning products. However, eye protection that has not been properly clean can spread conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other infections. Having your own personal eye wear is in your best interest. Spend a couple bucks and purchase your own eye wear because it just might save you from spending big bucks on doctor visits and medicines later on. Tanning clients should be cautious when using community eye wear. Now, if your life provides you with plenty of things to be cautious about just purchase your own and save yourself some drama.
